FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (F.A.Q)

1. What do we need to bring for our boat trip?

Change of clothes, hat, toiletries, swimwear, beach towel, sunscreen 30+, warm pullover for the evenings (seasonal) and cash for on board purchases. Some boats are BYO (bring your own alcohol) others have licensed bars so no alcohol can be taken on board. Please check for your individual boats rules in regards to BYO as most do not permit glass bottles.

2. Can I bring all my luggage/suitcase/backpack on the boat?

No, large backpacks/suitcases will not be permitted on the boat, so please pack your belongings in a small soft overnight bag. When you reconfirm or check in with your tour operator they will discuss the requirements as some boats require a zipless bag. Re-usable shopping bags are perfect or plastic bags.

3. Where can we store the rest of our luggage?

There are several places in town to store luggage, ask at your accommodation or boats check in office, cost is approx $5 for the whole trip.

4. Where can we leave car while on our sailing trip?

There are several paid car parks in Airlie Beach and at the Marina, cost is around $8 per 24 hours. Or try Base Backpackers on the Main Street which is $10 for whole time out on boat.

5. What does BYO mean?

Bring Your Own Alcohol. Most boats in the Whitsundays are BYO, this means you need to purchase your alcoholic drinks prior to your departure. Be sure to check with your boat first as most only allow cans or boxed wine, as glass is prohibited on board. Some boats have licensed bars on board, and you cannot bring your own alcohol on these boats.

6. Where does my boat depart from?

Most boats depart from Able Point Marina with a few departing from Port of Airlie Marina. Please see your ticket and check-in office for departure instructions. You are required to check in at a sailing office in town prior to departure and will need to call sailing office directly to re confirm your trip 24-48 hours prior to departure. They will give you updated departure information.

7. When is the stinger season?

Generally October to May, but you can still swim, snorkel and dive with a stinger suit or wetsuit for protection.

8. How do I get to the Whitsundays?

You can fly into Proserpine/Whitsunday Coast Airport and catch a shuttle bus to your accommodation in Airlie Beach for $20 pp. one way or $35 pp. return.
You can fly into Hamilton Island and catch a ferry over to Airlie Beach (Abel Point Marina is most convenient), the Cruise Whitsundays ferries are approx $50 pp. each way and you can view the timetable and book online at www.cruisewhitsundays.com.au
